Foundational Skills for Your Dog & You

training class focused on developing a strong connection for your dog and you

In CIC’s Foundational Skills For Your Dog & You, your dog and you will:

  • Experience calming techniques for your dog and you

  • Develop and strengthen your basic obedience skills

  • Work through polite loose-leash walking

  • Create a strong bond

  • Troubleshoot dog training challenges

Open to dogs 6 months and older, Foundational Skills For Your Dog & You is a group training class that supports all human and dog teams! Although dogs without previous training are welcome to enroll, we encourage dogs to have some formal socialization prior to enrolling. Consider joining a class with Call of the K9 first!

Not all participants are expected to be on the therapy dog path. If you are considering doing good with your dog as a CIC therapy dog team, completion of CIC’s Foundational Skills For Your Dog & You and trainer approval are required prior to joining CIC’s Therapy Dog Training.

CIC’s foundation is built on serving young people and it is our duty to keep them in mind when we plan sessions and trainings. Prior to registering for a training, please note that CIC does require that all human training participants (ages 5 years and older) have received their primary series of the COVID-19 vaccine. What sets CIC apart from other therapy dog trainings and organizations?

Along with working through general obedience skills, CIC trainings are grounded in the connection between your dog, your community, and you. Our intention is to give you the tools for your dog and you to work as a team during an active, pro-social therapy dog session. Every training session will include breathing exercises and elements of meditation to calm humans and dogs to create a positive, mindful training space.

Canine Inspired Change therapy dog programming blends social-emotional learning with dog training for groups of students in 6-12 week intervals. Most sessions are facilitated in a group setting with multiple therapy dog teams working on dog skills and moving through an agility course while emphasizing teamwork, kindness, confidence, and compassion.
